How to Pray

Forming a relationship with God is the only way that we can begin our spiritual journey with Him.   God has offered to hear and answer the prayers of his children (those who have received him into their lives and seek to follow him). If you have not received Christ into your heart, please investigate the four spiritual laws before going any further. click here

God desires to for us to take our concerns to him in prayer. As we deal with difficulties, we cast or give the concerns of our life to him and can be comforted with a peace that defies the circumstances.  As you pray, talk to the Lord about the individual or situation expressing the need.  However, we do not ask Him for the outcome that we may desire but for His will to be done.  Prayer is to help prepare us for the answer.  The basis for our hope and faith is the character of God himself. The better we know him, the more we will trust him with everything.

Prayer is communication with the Lord. Just like talking to your best friend, He cares about every detail of your life and He never tires of hearing from you.  Prayer should become a natural act.  The words you use should be yours.  Structured prayers are fine and the best example would be The Lords Prayer (Mark 11:25-26).   This prayer taught by Jesus contains all the things for a full prayer. Use this passage as a springboard however; remember your words are what He wants to hear.

You might consider these guides to help you in your prayer life.

Greet the Lord; Honor Him as the Creator…

Give Him Praise and Thanksgiving for the blessings of your life…

Ask Him to know your heart’s desire

Ask Him to examine your heart and relationship with Him

Confess any known wrongs or disobedience to Him

Tell Him of the needs of others

Express your desires for those in need to come to know Him

Present to Him your needs

Thank Him for listening and then you stop and listen for His voice to speak to you.

Maybe read a passage from Psalms during your prayer time.

Make a prayer list of those you know are in need of spiritual and physical healing.

There will be times that you only want to praise Him for answering prayers or for just acknowledging who He is with no requests attached.

Remember Gods desire is to be in a relationship with you.
